If you are looking for unique, handmade buttons for your creative projects, you've come to the right place!

This button was created by my husband Jeff in spalted maple wood. Spalted wood is just amazing, and this spalted maple is really something! The design in the grain of each piece of spalted wood is so unique- every one a rare beauty.

Jeff has described the spalting before as "nature's paintbrush" because of the dark lines and designs that look like they've been painted on the wood.

Spalting is wood coloration by fungi, and when woodworkers find spalted wood that has the amazing designs, but is at the happy point before the wood has decomposed away- it's quite a treasure!

He sands and polishes the buttons so smooth, you'll love the way they feel. All the sanding and polishing also brings out the beauty of the grain, and makes the wood glow.

So much love goes into making these buttons for you to enjoy on your special, creative projects!

Measurements: 1.5 inches wide.

Sometimes the spalted wood needs to be stabilized. These buttons have gone through a process to stabilize the spalted wood, more on that below.

Beautiful wood + lots of sanding + natural oil finish + polishing on the buffing wheel + a whole lotta love = some gorgeous buttons for your special projects.

~Care Instructions~ Care for these buttons as you would wool: hand wash garment in cool water and lay flat to dry. If the wood should dry out from washing, a little walnut oil (or other natural oil) on a soft cloth works well to moisturize them. Oiling them will keep your buttons beautiful and protect them from drying out.

*This particular set of buttons has gone through a process to stabilize the spalted wood. This is a write-up from Jeff about the process to keep the bark on certain woods, which is the same process. A note from Jeff: "A lot of folks like the look of buttons with the bark still on them, but this isn't possible with most woods because the bark will come off right away. So I came up with a method of adhering the bark with a special inert (non-toxic) adhesive that permeates the bark then holds it to the main wood. Any adhesive on the surface of the button is then sanded and polished off. This gives a really nice look especially with Hemlock and Sassafras."
